A Quest Giver Who Becomes the Fight
The modern Uber layer is Gabriel, Amun Ra and Luna, and only Luna comes with a story beat. You do not simply walk into an arena and start hitting something. You take a job from a friendly NPC, do the job, come back to collect — and the NPC turns on you.
That reversal is the reason Luna sits apart from her Uber peers. The fight is an attrition check like the rest of the layer, but the setup is a narrative, and understanding it is what stops you standing in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Two Ways Into Vanaheim
Reaching Luna is a routing problem. There are two community routes, and they are not equal in reliability:
- The gamble — Summoner of Rifts. In the Ether Tree, the Summoner of Rifts node guarantees at least one Unstable Rift spawns on your Overworld map. An Unstable Rift has a small chance of opening onto Vanaheim. The community advice is to hunt these in Act 1 tiles, where the surrounding danger is lowest — a failed Rift should not cost you a character.
- The reliable route — Bifrost Key. Use a Bifrost Key at the altar in the top-right corner of the Astral Encampment. The Bifrost offers several travel destinations, and Vanaheim is one of them. If you have a key, this is the route to take; the Rift hunt is for people farming keys anyway.
Guard an over-investment in the Rift route. The stable, keyed trip is the one that turns Luna into a repeatable rotation slot rather than a lucky detour.
The Four-Step Story Flow
Once in Vanaheim, the encounter plays out as a short quest:
- Clear the entry area. The approach zone is not empty; tidy it up before talking to anyone.
- Talk to Prophet Luna at the top. She hands you a prophecy task: kill a set number of monsters.
- Complete the task and return to the portal. This is the step players misread — you are not done, and the reward is not real.
- She is possessed. Prophet Luna turns hostile and becomes the boss, Possessed Luna, in the arena. Now the fight starts.

The Skills You Are Actually Dodging
Possessed Luna’s kit is a spell list, and it is worth naming because each one leaves a footprint you can read:
- Crystal Ball — a channeled projectile pattern that punishes standing still.
- Black Hole — area denial that pulls the arena’s safe ground smaller.
- Starshower — falling projectiles across a wide area; keep moving.
- Cosmic Winds — a sweeping effect that forces repositioning.
- Starstruck — a burst you want to be out of range for.
The pattern across all five is the same as the rest of the modern layer: the fight is not a damage check first, it is a space check. Luna gives you damage windows, but only for players who have kept their feet.
Why Luna Is the Layer’s Farming Draw
Luna is the modern Uber most commonly farmed on its own, and her position on the S10 roster explains why. The huge health pool is intimidating, but it is also the point: a fight you can clear reliably and repeatedly is a fight worth putting on the rotation. Dedicated Luna farming exists as its own community genre because the kill rewards justify the key cost once your build is stable.
The honest caveat is that “stable” is doing a lot of work in that sentence. If your endgame build core is unfinished, the 214-billion-class health pool will outlast your damage and the attrition math flips against you. Finish the build on the classic trio first.
Luna FAQ
Do I need the Summoner of Rifts node to fight Luna at all?
No. If you have a Bifrost Key, the Astral Encampment altar takes you to Vanaheim without any Ether Tree investment. The Rift route exists for players who would rather farm keys than buy them — it is a fallback, not a requirement.
Can I fight Possessed Luna without doing the quest chain?
The possession is scripted, so the arena fight follows the task turn-in rather than standing alone. You cannot skip the setup in the sense of skipping steps, but the steps are short: clear, talk, kill, report, fight.
What does Uber Luna drop?
As a modern-layer Uber, her loot sits in the mid-band of the endgame item pool — above campaign rewards and the classic trio, below Season 10’s new layer. Per-boss loot tables are community-documented and patch-sensitive; verify current drops in-game.
